Tarpey>Torpey name change

My father Richard Torpey born 1922 Louisville Kentucky to John Thomas Torpey Jr(b 1896) and Mary Philomena Constantine. He was the son of John Thomas Torpey Sr, born Louisville Kentucky 1868 married to Margaret Devine, his parents are listed as having been born in the Irish Free States in the census. I am at loss from here back. The family history suggests that a great aunt changed our name from Tarpey to Torpey around the time of immigration.

I have recently found my great great grandfather Patrick Tarpy b. c. 1823 emigrated to Tennesse before 1860 and married 19 year old Irish immigrant Julia Long before migrating to Kentucky.

I have since found that Patrick's wife Julia Long's parents were Walter Long and Mary O' Shaugnessey
